PurrEver Ranch Sanctuary makes a lifelong commitment to every cat that enters our Hospice. Most of the cats we take in are unlikely to get adopted because of age, others were born outside the home and grew up with little human contact and are shy. Stray or abandoned cats may also revert to a semi-feral state before being rescued. PurrEver Ranch is also home to six Katrina Kittizens we rescued from New Orleans, Louisiana & the Mississippi coast. The Sanctuary does not euthanize felines considered "unadoptable"; we euthanize only to alleviate suffering from terminal illness.
PurrEver Ranch's Senior Kittizens (& other "unadoptable" Kittizens) are in need of loving "parents" to sponsor their monthly feed, shelter and veterinary care costs. PurrEver Ranch Kittizens are available for sponsor adoption through our Adopt-A-Senior-Kittizen Project. By adopting a Senior Kittizen, you can provide the necessary support to care for a rescued elderly or "undoptable" cat we may not be able to help without you. PurrEver Ranch's kittizens are funded entirely by donations, so the number of felines we can care for is dependent on sponsorship funding. Adoption sponsors make a year-long commitment to a Sanctuary feline and make monthly or annual payments.
To adopt a Senior Kittizen today, choose the type of Kittizen who's right for you. Complete the monthly sponsorship registration form. You will receive an adoption certificate with a color photograph of your adopted Kittizen. You may also wish to consider adopting a Senior Kittizen for your friends and family as a special Gift Adoption or in memory of a beloved pet.
Abraham, 18 yrs old
Abe died Mon May 14, 2007

Human died, then guardian passed. Relatives threw him outside in the freezing cold-- nothing to keep him warm, nothing to eat.. Alone, terrified & starving. Neighbors finally
took him to animal shelter
where he was skin & bones--
fleas weighing more than him.
Rescued from euthanizaion.

MONTE
This young boy was rescued in one of the hardest hit areas in New Orleans. We have searched for his humans to no avail. VERY sweet. Purrfers to be the only cat. Gentle Giant
Jim Henry is yet another victim of Hurricane Katrina. A beautiful blue--eyed Flame Point Siamese. His human & home survived the storm but without income they were not able to make their mortgage & lost their home. He was brought into an animal shelter in New Orleans by his elderly human who was crying openingly saying
they could no longer provide for their baby.
The shelter called & asked if he could possibly come to PurrEver to avoid euthanization. Jim Henry has been here since Xmas 06 & has adjusted beautifully. He is such a loverboy, sleeps next to me every night.
PurrEver plans on finding his humans &
reuniting once they get back on their feet.

Can you believe somebody would throw this beautiful old boy away at a HIGH kill shelter?! Percy was rescued from a certain death & will live the rest of his days at the Sanctuary.
Lovable. Funny. Call him the "Gangsta Cat" because he likes to hide behind cat doors & attack the others as they come through--just for fun. Has to be professionally groomed as some seniors find grooming a chore.
Big Boy. Appears to have been abused--doesn't like loud voices & will run & hide. Sometimes ducks when a hand is lifted as if he has been hit in the past. Scared of storms. Spoons like a baby when night terrors frighten him.
ISABELLE
Kill Shelter Director called and asked PurrEver could take a six-month old DEAF kitten that was aggressive--never properly socialized & would be euthanized.
Isabelle certainly was a handfull at first. Biting. Lounging. Two months went by of this & it seemed a decision needed to be made for the safety of the elders.
It was then, this kitten reached up & stretched her legs on my thigh & pressed her head against my leg--for several seconds. Tears popped into my eyes--knowing this cat was begging for her life...and extra time.
Izzy will never be adoptable. But she trusts me. Meows quite loudly when she sees me & loves to sit in my lap & make biscuits. Will still bite if picked up--special girl with special needs.
MERLIN
Unknown history. Found wandering the streets. Flea infested. Matted. Battle wounds. Untreated ear infection caused his ear to califlower.
Barely escaped t e needle of death from a kill shelter. Came to live at PurrEver Ranch. Was so used to be chased out of people's yards, that he would run terrified whenever he saw a human.
Took a LONG time to gain his trust & he still has flashbacks & will run terrified that you will hurt him.
SWEET cat when calm. Never was given the chance to fully trust humans. Never hurts any other cat. Has to be professionally groomed as he never learned to properly groom himself or perhaps his nerves keep him on high alert.
Good boy.
UPDATE: Merlin is now sleeping with me & we have "fallen in love" Still startles easy but trusts me now. "Talks" to me. Took a year but worth it! Love & Patience paid off :)
PARKAY
This little boy came to the Sanctuary as a feral kitten. A tiny lion mad & full of hiss & vinegar.
Gentled down to butter in your hands, hence the name Parkay. Little boy went with his brothers & sister to be adopted at the shelter. They were all adopted almost immediatey.
Nobody wanted Parkay. Six months he grew up in a cage. Never running or playing like other kittens. I knew this was no life & brought him back to the Sanctuary to avoid euthanization.
Took him months to learn to live outside a cage.
SNAGGLES (BASTET)
Bast belonged to an elderly neighbor that passed away. She arrived on my doorstep fully pregnant confident that I would care for her.
When the son came to collect his mother's belongings, I asked him about Bastet & he said he "would take care of it by dumping her in the woods on the way back." Somehow, I managed not to commit homicide & gave the unfeeling monster a piece of my mind.
Bast came home with me where her kittens were born & adopted out to loving homes.
This sweet cat is very girly--tender, loving & passive. Has the most beautiful cat eyes!
VIVIAN LEIGH / COTTON BELLE / ROSE PETAL
A horrid despurrate housewife threw this this sweet girl away when her son when off to college stating she despised cats. Viv lived in a stainless steel cage for over a month in a kill shelter where certain death awaited her.
For months she kept to herself, never bothering anyone, never asking for rubs, never giving headbutts---never purring. Somehow we started a ritual of her taking a bath with me & we would talk. She began giving me eye hugs.
Viv began skipping & dancing beside me. Mewing when she saw me. Vivian began purring. Vivian began to know she was loved and safe.
Viv is now the Belle of PurrEver Ranch, our little Princess.
LILLY MAE
Can you believe these beautiful blue eyes terrified two sets of families? Twice she bounced back to the shelter. The last time by her elderly new guardians who had to call 911 for Animal Control to come & get the cat---she had them cornered in their bedroom...
Lilly Mae was just a bit misunderstood & needed somebody to believe in her. She simply needed love & lots of patience.
Though she will never be adoptable, Lilly has grown to trust me--never bites if she knows you are there. Is learning she is a "good girl" Somebody convinced her she was a "bad girl" Learning to love each & every day.
PTAH
This beautiful, sweet mancat barely escaped euthanization after being found begging for food. Nobody ever came looking for him, noone ever called. He howled & howled at the shelter. HATED being in a cage & terrified of the noise.
VERY calm cat. Avoids confrontation with other cats at any costs. Is on the CATKINS diet as he is trying to shed a couple of pounds.
MISS MABEL MARBLES
This darling cat was abandoned when her ex-humans moved & left her to starve to death. Barely alive--just skin & bones. Saved from shelter euthanization during kitten season when adult cats are killed
to make room for babies.
Has adusted well to the Sanctuary. Gets along with all cats. Affectionate. Sweet girl

OOSHA BOO BOO
My daughter, Jessika, rescued this cat after he was thrown from a car on a busy highway in Fayette County TN. She immediately took him to vet where she thought he might be humanely euthanized--but the cat came back!
Had some severe jaw injuries, broken leg & pelvis. One of the toughest cats at the Sanctuary. LOVES to be sung to--or perhaps my voice is so bad, he thinks I'm in pain--because he gets in my laps, meows & kisses me.
CLEMENTINE
Shelter Director called & told me a 14 week old kitten would be euthanized. Bros & sis all sweet & loving. Clemy hissing & biting.
Clemy has very sensitive skin, what some call a 3-stroke cat & she HATES to be picked up. But loves her chin to be rubbed.
Loves to dance next to me. Likes to grab your rear when you least expect it. Plays hide & seek.
Funniest cat I've ever encountered.
BUBBLES
Came to the Sanctuary as a tiny, wild lion but gentled down into one of the sweetest cats on the planet. Was adopted out to neighbor but bounced back when she had a baby with severe allergies...
Offers tender solace to the grumpy cats that don't allow anyone else to snuggle with them. Has a calming affect on anyone in her presence. Magical little cat.
Bubbles is needed at the Sanctuary. Little gift from the heavens.
JILLY JANE
This wild little girl came to PurrEver Ranch as a feral kitten that never really gentled completelty down.
Was brought to the shelter in a homemade trap destined for euthanization. One look into those purrfect cat shaped eyes & Bast resemblance got her a ticket to the Sanctuary.
Loves watching the birds from the screened in porches & chasing butterflies that fly into the enclosure. A true cat.

DARLING (PurrEver Ranch's Resident Feral)
This wild, little girl lived behind the Wolf River Cafe in Rossville TN in an abandoned barn. For over a year, I fed her. She learned the sound of my truck & would skip over to her bowl & wait for me. Never letting me touch her.
News came that the barn would come down & the cat had to go. Took me some time but I was able to trap her & bring her to PurrEver Ranch. Darling has been spayed & vaccinated & has full access to the sanctuary
She meows when her dish needs refilling & sometimes she comes out & watches me. I plan to retrap her & work on gentling her with flower essences from www.catfaeries.com Darling is adorable!
